Leather from LWG certified manufacturers
Leather from LWG-certified manufacturers
Leather Working Group (LWG) is an organisation focusing on the environmental impact caused by leather manufacturing. To become LWG-certified, manufacturers must have implemented programmes for energy use and wastewater. The medal certifications awarded are gold, silver and bronze.
LWG Auditing & Rating
The LWG audit protocol is used to assess the environmental performance of leather manufacturers. The medal levels have been set based upon best practice within the industry and reward good environmental practices. The medal levels are scored at 85% (Gold), 75% (Silver) and 65% (Bronze). The supplier must score the minimum in each of the protocol's scoring sections. A non-medal rating (Black) indicates that the supplier has been audited but did not fully meet the requirements of each section.
Gold
The manufacturer has been audited and received at least the minimum scoring (85) for a Gold medal classification – the highest LWG rating.
Silver
The manufacturer has been audited and received at least the minimum scoring (75) for a Silver medal classification.
Bronze
The manufacturer has been audited and received at least the minimum scoring (65) for a Bronze medal classification.
Audited
The manufacturer has been audited but did not reach the minimum percentage score required for a medal classification.
