With our mission to be a global fashion brand comes a great responsibility to think and act sustainable on all levels. On this journey it is all about awareness in choices of material, production, transportation and consumption, while at the same time striving for innovations and solutions through cooperations that can really be a game-changer.

    report 2021

“Only buy what you really love”
    The quick self-test

    1. Will I wear these shoes with several existing outfits in my wardrobe?
    2. Will I wear these shoes over and over again?
    3. Can I promise to love and take good care of my shoes so I can one day pass them on to someone else?

If all answers are Yes you are investing in something that you really love, which is step one in sustainable fashion use. Sustainability is also so much more, read our latest sustainability report here.

    Chemicals
    Total ban of restricted substances

We are committed to removing or substituting all substances restricted by EU, international regulations, and local restrictions. Instead of aiming for staying within permitted levels of these restricted substances, our Restricted Substances List (RSL) states from 2020 a total ban of these substances. We have also worked to map out the substances relevant to our industry to make it easier to overview and be compliant.

    Higg Co
    Value chain sustainability

From 2021 we are connected to the Higg Co self-assessment module. A system where we measure our sustainability risks, decisions, actions, and follow-ups transparently regarding environmental and social impacts. Some of our biggest customers are also members, meaning sharing information about each other’s value chain. This is ongoing work and will eventually result in better and better measurements also connected to each product.

    Emission to air
    Greenhouse gas calculations

For many years we have been measuring our transport emissions, aiming to always ship full containers by sea, which has the least negative environmental impact compared to land or air transport. 2021 we took the next step and started to build and test our own Greenhouse Gas Calculation system. This enables us to map the type and amount of energy and fuel used throughout our value chain, from material source to product sent to the customers. To know the full emission footprint is an important step to be able to make improvements to reach our goal of 50% less emissions, relevant to our business, by 2030. This is aligned with the UN Paris Agreement and a responsibility we share with our and all other industries.

    LWG members
    Environmental control within leather production

We are a leather product producer. Even though leather is a waste product from the meat industry, there are big energy, chemical, and wastewater challenges in the tanning process. By 2022 we aim for 100% of our tanneries to be certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG). The mission of the Leather Working Group is to provide environmental best practices, provide continual guidelines and conduct certification audits. During the pandemic, the certification process had to be paused, but still, 87% of our suppliers are now LWG rated. We always collaborate closely with all our tanneries to make sure all suppliers are compliant with our chemical restrictions and Code of Conduct.

    The 2020 Pandemic

When the pandemic hit, it was all about keeping the staff safe and stay operational in safe way. At the same time, we experienced how operations almost stopped for many of our loyal retailing stores and how the order situation for our suppliers became more uncertain.

Therefore, we used our close dialogues with our partners and worked to find creative solutions that could ease the situation. For our retail partners we focused on adjusted orders and terms of deliveries. With our suppliers we changed production schedules to better mirror the situation without having to downsize. The set back for our business is undeniable. However, thanks to quick actions throughout the value chain we find ourselves having a carefully optimistic outlook for our brand and for our long-term partners.

    The REACH Chemical restrictions

We continuously update our Restricted Substance List (RSL) in accordance to REACH regulations and/or according to national laws on the markets where we are active. All suppliers who work with us must comply to our list of restricted substances.

On our restricted substances list, we chose to go for zero tolerance instead of specifying allowed REACH limits. We also follow up on a material & component level to make sure all parts of the shoe are free from restricted substances before being crafted.

Material: LWG cooperation for the environment

Aiming to further develop a more sustainable leather production with less strain on the environment, we became members of the Leather Working Group (LWG) in 2019.

Our inhouse experience and skills within shoemaking is, and has always been, our compass and best tool in the close cooperation with our suppliers. For further support and continuous development, we are continuously looking for fruitful collaborations within the industry. Focusing on sustainability for leather, the Leather Working Group is today one of the most well-known and well-regarded not-for-profit membership organizations for stakeholders across the leather supply chain. As members we get access to valuable learnings about best practices in the industry and the latest innovations. By being part of this group of stakeholders that strive for structural and systematic improvements in the leather industry, we are hopeful to further improve the environmental efforts together with our suppliers.

As of today (2020), more than 60% of our leather materials are from LWG rated tanneries. We aim for all our leather suppliers to be LWG rated by 2022 at the latest.
