    Our Materials

With all our products we strive to improve and find sustainable alternatives – all materials are carefully selected for each component. When producing our shoes and accessories, we are committed to having a minimal negative impact on people and the planet. Below you can learn more about the materials used when creating our collections.

    Different leathers

Leather has unique features when it comes to fit and is very resistant to wear and tear. Our leathers come from handpicked tanneries, all LWG-rated or in the process of becoming certified. The leather we use is a by-product of the meat industry and should be purchased and used responsibly.

    Leather

Most of our products are in full-grain leather (mainly cow but also from goat, pig, and sheep). It is a soft and supple material that shapes well and therefore suits many designs. Plain soft leather is also used for leather linings and leather insoles in our shoes.

    Suede leather

The suede is either split leather or the backside of the leather with a soft, velvety structure to it. The unique look makes it suitable when creating both footwear and accessories.

    Nubuck leather

Nubuck is sanded leather that is treated with oil or wax for a supple, matte feel. The material has a durable quality that develops a nice patina over time.

    LWG-certified tanneries

Leather manufacturers are audited and certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG). LWG is an organization focusing on the environmental impact caused by leather manufacturing. All certified tanneries have programs for energy use and wastewater handling. The certifications are divided into gold, silver, or bronze.

    Chrome-free tanned leathers

In tanning, natural, or mixed substances are used to soften and prepare the leather for manufacturing. Chrome is a commonly used substance in leather production. Research indicates that chrome may cause skin allergies, so we strive to use chrome-free tanned leather in most of our leather insoles and linings worn against the skin.

    Textile linings

Our textile linings are made of GOTS-certified organic cotton, lyocell, or 100% recycled polyester. We also keep a lookout for other alternative textiles, especially those made of vegetable waste.

    GOTS-certified organic cotton

GOTS-certified organic cotton is organically produced by farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without using toxic, persistent pesticides and fertilizers. Organic production also relies on adequate animal husbandry and excludes genetic modification.

    Tencel™

Tencel is a textile material made from lyocell and modal fibres produced from sustainably sourced tree pulp using environmentally responsible processes. Only a fraction of the water used to make cotton is needed to make Tencel.

    Recycled polyester, GRS

Recycled polyester is a material consisting of at least 50% recycled polyester fibres which are certified by the Global Recycling Standards (GRS). GRS aims to reduce the production’s harmful impact on the environment and ensure that materials used in the final product have been recycled and processed sustainably. We always use 100% recycled GRS polyester.

    S.café

S.Café is an entirely natural substance made from used coffee grinds and has natural antibacterial properties. Rather than coating textile threads with chemical antibacterials, this substance is applied before weaving. You will find this material in some of our boots lining, naturally protecting them from odour.

    Outsoles

Our outsoles are either made from rubber, thermoplastic, or low-density materials. Our definition of rubber is a combination of natural and synthetic options. Natural rubber provides good elasticity, while synthetic rubber resists heat, oil, and chemicals.

Our outsoles are designed considering a balance between durability, softness, and looks. To create a long-lasting product, we have focused extensively on optimally matching uppers and outsoles.

In our innovative Shoe Bring Back program, rubber from worn-out shoes is shredded down to become new post-consumer material, an essential first step towards circularity.

    Non-animal

Our Non-animal products are made of quality PU materials such as textiles or synthetic leather and equipped with cork innersoles. See the complete collection.
