No traditional Lucia parade, but yet some catchy Christmas music from our own "house band". They were entertaining us during breakfast this morning when we were treated with the Swedish Christmas specialities "lucia saffron buns" and gingerbread cookies.

Have you also heard of DIY? A growing movement within the consumer market with millions following bloggers creating high-fashion looks at budget-friendly prices. DIY, which means Do It Yourself, has gained an interest in crafting and transforming garments, accessories, shoes, furniture, interior.. yeah, whatever you like! This must be one of the best trends ever!?

We have been in contact with Anna Lidström, a cool and inspirational Swedish DIY-blogger and stylist. Read the interview with her and you’ll get some tips on how you can Do It Yourself!

From where do you get inspiration?
-From everywhere! I generally tend to be attracted by odd materials, things that have been lost and found, flea market bargains, things from the 80’s and the 90’s, music, popular culture, the Swedish radio channel P1, kitsch, politics, friends, my sister “underbaraclara” (a Swedish blogger)… I could go on forever!
Humor and irony is important in everything I do!
Do you follow any DIY-blogg in particular?
-Yes, Honestly WTF is a favorite. High standard, on trend, good ideas and cool pictures... Everything looks very professional.
What kind of things do you mostly design?
-It depends… if I’m going to do something for myself I prefer somewhat rather simple with a quick result. Like transforming a shirt or something just to get rid of the constant “itch in my fingers” (creative therapy!).
When I do things for customers, as a freelance designer, I do everything from prints and sketches to being a stylist and work with concept developments etc.

Do you use to buy clothes to redesign them? Or do you mostly transform the things you have in your wardrobe or find at flea markets?
Both, I would say 50/50.
Describe your style!
(I just have to write this answer in Swedish for all you Swedish subscribers! I love Anna’s description):
”Detaljrikt 90-tals-sväng med oversize-inslag, en gnutta bas och hemvävt med vissa teatrala spår. Ständigt ett barrsvall på skallen.”
“Detailed and influenced by the 90’s with elements of oversize, a touch of base, woven garments and hints of theatre. Always with a fuzzy hair.”
Give us your best DIY-tips?
Cut of the arms of a shirt or cuff them up. Tie the shirt it in your waistline. Voilá! Fast and stylish!

...transformed to a necklace!

Anna has stylishly coverd the heels of her boots in silver! These are actually also Vagabond!
